8 April 2011

Large quantities of unlicensed medications have actually been seized by Department of Health officials during a search of a house in Glengormley.

A man was spoken with by department officers about illegally importing and consequently supplying unlicensed via the web.

The 47-year-old was also questioned about other medicine offenses.

He will now be the subject of a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

The search was performed by the department's Medicines Regulatory Group.

Its senior enforcement workplace, Peter Moore, stated: "It is crucial that we get the message across that unlicensed medicines can be hazardous.

"These kinds of items being sold, typically online, have undergone no quality assurance and there can be no warranty about their security.

"You just do not understand what you are taking or the conditions these items were made in. More significantly, you do not understand the effect drugs like this may have on your health."
